Nursing care quality indicators constitute strategic healthcare management tools for evaluating clinical performance, strengthening patient safety, and reinforcing institutional governance. The objective of this study was to analyze nursing care quality indicators and their impact on patient safety from the perspective of institutional governance through an integrative review of the literature published between 2020 and 2025, with particular emphasis on their role as management instruments and decision-support tools for organizational leadership. The methodology followed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical scope and an interpretive method, based on an integrative review of studies indexed in PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, and EBSCO Host. The main findings revealed consistent associations between the systematic implementation of quality indicators and the reduction of adverse events, improvements in continuity of care, and stronger evidence-based decision-making processes. It was concluded that, although the findings demonstrate significant associations, they should not be interpreted as direct causal relationships. Nevertheless, the available evidence supports the value of nursing care quality indicators as essential tools for monitoring, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement, enabling institutional governance, optimizing healthcare management, and fostering an organizational culture focused on patient safety and excellence in nursing care.
