Abstract

Society finds itself at a historic crossroads, where the very foundations of the world order, carved in stone at Westphalia, are under unprecedented strain. The concept of state sovereignty, that hard core of international coexistence, can no longer be analyzed as an impregnable fortress, but rather as a porous membrane, constantly strained by the centrifugal force of human rights and international criminal responsibility.

This reflection does not arise, therefore, from abstract scholarship, but from the heat of the courtroom, from the meticulous examination of forensic reports in asymmetric conflicts, and from the distressing paradox of a hyperconnected world that too often stands by impassively as humanity becomes totally disconnected in specific corners of the map.
