Abstract

This article is the product of an ongoing investigation entitled ornithology in rural education as a means of teaching for the conservation of birds, it is a project carried out with a rural population at the “El Escobal” Agricultural Educational Institution in Ramiriquí, Boyacá. Its objective: To promote ornithological knowledge in transitional and fourth grade students of the Educational Institution, through a historical tour of birds in the municipality of Ramiriquí, Boyacá. It is a theoretical-practical work with a qualitative approach, where some instruments were designed for its development. The first instrument was a workshop on oral tradition, the second, a primer on the birds of the municipality, and finally an origami primer. These instruments have been applied in the meetings held in natural spaces on the sidewalk where the students reside, phone calls and conversations through platforms such as WhatsApp. The results show that the population maintains important traditional knowledge about birds, in the writing of stories, poems or verses, where students tell fascinating stories that promote knowledge in relation to them and their conservation, the development of instruments is also highlighted, in addition to the creation of new knowledge. Conclusions: It has been possible to demonstrate that history is a vitally important resource to retake knowledge and create new knowledge, in addition to generating this type of dynamics not only contributes to the strengthening of knowledge regarding birds but mainly, to create conservation actions for the good of them, together with the rural population.
