Abstract

The identification of actions that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) undertake in sustainability is crucial to understanding their environmental and social impact, as well as for detecting areas for improvement. Mexican SMEs represent the main economic driver of Mexico, with around 4.1 million units, according to data recorded by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Informatics. The objective of this research is to review the existing literature on the sustainability actions undertaken by SMEs in Mexico. The methodology used is a systematic review analysis, searching for scientific articles in Spanish published between 2019 and 2024 in the Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc, Google Scholar, and Dialnet databases. Specific selection criteria were applied to identify studies that describe sustainability dimensions, the concrete actions taken by SMEs in each dimension, the stakeholders involved, and the indices used to measure corporate sustainability. The findings indicate that there is an information gap to fill regarding the sustainable actions carried out by SMEs in Mexico.
