Writing about business ethics in the third decade of the 21st century may seem, at first glance, an exercise in optimism or even naivety. It takes place in a global landscape marked by rampant inequality, the climate crisis, public mistrust of institutions, and corporate scandals that occur with disturbing regularity.
In this context, ethics runs the risk of being perceived as a luxury, just another department, often relegated to the sidelines, or a simple manual of good intentions that is celebrated in annual reports while being ignored in the boardrooms where strategic decisions are made.
